Dreamworld’s “park after dark” is definitely something totally different from the norm. Rain, hail or moonshine (or in our case over two nights, a whole heap of rain) the park opens its doors after hours for a chance to experience the park’s lineage of family attractions and big thrill rides all at night. It’s a simple enough concept with a few perks thrown in for good measure – while you’re discovering what it’s like to freefall into a dark abyss aboard Giant Drop’s 119m drop, or barrel-rolling in the night sky aboard TailSpin, the park’s latest thrill ride, there’s also a DJ and regular “Illuminate” shows (the park’s laser/fire/light-show) throughout the night.
While I spent the majority of the two evenings capturing the atmosphere and experiences the park has to offer, I have been to quite a few over the past decade. For what it’s worth, they’ve come a long way and continue to do so in terms of offerings – there’s plenty of cool little places to grab a bev, including Boost Juice in Main Street, and they’re not short on street performers either – expect to see Kenny & Belinda (the park’s mascots) along with the Fun Police making regular appearances throughout the night, all of which comes together in the sort of well-rounded premium experience which both families and teens can enjoy.
But enough talk, right? Checkout the photos and let us know your thoughts. Full image album is available on Flickr.
